In 1994, as a result of her life-long study and expertise in Latin America, Latino minorities in the USA and the Spanish influence in the Americas, Himilce Novas wrote EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LATINO HISTORY (1994; 1998; 2003;2008 Plume/Penguin), which traces the history of Latinos on the North American continent. The book met with extraordinary critical acclaim in such media outlets as The Los Angeles Times, GoodDay New York and WNCB TV, and went into sixth printing within months of publication.

The book has become a standard on the subject and has been placed on the recommended reading list of hundreds of media outlets, educational institutions and corporations, including the New York City Board of Education; Fortune magazine; and The SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION art and education programs. THE NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY selected Everything You Need to Know About Latino History for its annual list of most recommended books. The book is currently listed in The New York Review of Books Readers Catalogue: The 40,000 Best Books in Print. Barnes & Noble ranks this book as # 30,000 out of #2,000,000 most popular books.

The 2008 edition of EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT LATINO HISTORY is currently in bookstores.

This means that our workforce, school, what we eat and the way we approach problems will be stongly influenced by a culture so different from the current dominant, so-called Anglo culture, as to alter our traditional U.
